HealthMy name is Francisca Amparo and I never imagined that one day I would have to turn to strangers to ask for help. But when it comes to a child's life, a mother does everything within her power.
My son Ricardo Salazar is only 7 years old and is fighting cancer. Since the day of his diagnosis, our lives changed completely. The smile of a boy full of dreams was replaced by days of suffering, hospitalizations, tests, needles, and chemotherapy sessions.
Watching my son go through all this breaks my heart. The chemotherapy takes an enormous physical toll on him: he suffers severe pain, constant nausea, loses his appetite, and becomes so weak that, some days, he can't even get out of bed. Every treatment is a new battle, and as a mother, it is devastating not to be able to ease all the pain he is enduring.
Unfortunately, besides facing this terrible illness, we are also going through a difficult financial situation. I had to stop working to care for him 24 hours a day, because Ricardo depends on me completely. Since I can't work, our income disappeared right when medical expenses began to increase.
Today we need help covering the cost of medications, tests, medical appointments, transportation to the hospital, and the treatments that can give him a chance to keep living. We are also struggling to cover our home's most basic needs, such as food, utilities, and everything Ricardo needs to face this illness with a bit more dignity.
As a mother, my greatest fear is looking at my son and feeling that I cannot give him everything he needs to keep fighting for his life. My only wish is to see him healthy again, running, playing, and enjoying the childhood that cancer took from him too soon.
